This memo announces a PERAC survey to gather information on how individual retirement boards handle purchases of creditable service (military, non-membership, and refunded service), since practices vary and are left to board discretion. Boards are required to complete and return the questionnaire to PERAC by September 30, 2004; results will later be compiled and shared with all boards and posted on PERAC's website.

M E M O R A N D U M TO: To All Retirement Boards FROM: Joseph E. Connarton, Executive Director RE: Purchasing Creditable Service Questionnaire

DATE: September 13, 2004

At a recent Commission meeting, we were asked to survey retirement boards to find out how each board handles purchases of creditable service (military service, non- membership service, and refunded service). This is an area that is left to the boards’ discretion: some boards have regulations and some boards have policies. Please take the time to complete this questionnaire and return it to PERAC by September 30, 2004.
Once the responses have been compiled, the summarized information will be made available to all retirement boards. Summary information will also be posted on PERAC’s Web site.
