M E M O R A N D U M TO: All Retirement Boards FROM: Joseph E. Connarton, Executive Director RE: Governor Romney’s Veto of Senate Bill 1576
DATE: August 13, 2004
Governor Romney has vetoed Senate Bill 1576. This bill provided for an annual veterans benefit to accidental disability retirees at a rate of $15 per year of creditable service, to a maximum of $300. The bill would have been a local option, would have required Retirement Boards to notify potentially eligible veterans, and would have had retroactive effect. If the Legislature acts to override the veto, PERAC will advise the Boards of any steps that must be taken.
