Memorandum # 12/2002

M E M O R A N D U M TO: Retirement Boards FROM: Joseph E. Connarton, Executive Director RE: Retirement Board Survey

DATE: February 27, 2002

Since its inception PERAC has been committed to expanding educational efforts to assist Board members and staff in performing the vital tasks associated with management of the retirement system. Through numerous seminars, publications and memos we have attempted to make the law and regulations easier to understand and apply. We have also worked with Boards in addressing ethics concerns related to acceptance of Cola’s, revising PERAC forms and drafting regulations as well as other matters.

In order to solicit the opinions of Board members and staff we recently disseminated an extensive survey asking your views of PERAC and its operations. This is the first time that such a survey has been conducted and the results will enable us to revise our approach where necessary, maintain our effort in some areas, and undertake new initiatives.

To those who have responded to the survey, on behalf of the Commission thank you for your valuable input. To those who have not yet responded please do so as soon as possible in order for us to consider your suggestions as we prepare for the year ahead, particularly as we finalize plans for the Educational Seminar at UMass in July.

If you have misplaced or did not receive the survey please contact Lindsay Deaver at (617) 666- 4446 ext. 937 and we will provide you with one.
