PERAC MEMO # 42/2000 M E M O R A N D U M TO: All Retirement Boards FROM: Joseph E.Connarton, Executive Director RE: New Disability Pension Fraud Poster DATE: October 1, 2000 In accordance with the requirements of Chapter 427, § 10 of the Acts of 1996, the Public Employee Retirement Administration Commission (PERAC) maintains a toll-free hot line for the reporting of fraudulent disability pension claims and payments. The hot line number is 1-800-445-3266. All messages are kept confidential. The hot line was initially promoted through an earlier poster campaign built around the slogan, “It adds up”. This year’s poster features the slogan “FRAUD, It is a Big Deal” and also promotes the use of the toll-free hot line. We are enclosing three posters for your use. Please display them in your office and other locations in your building that provide maximum visibility. The Commission sincerely appreciates your cooperation in this endeavor. A copy of PERAC’s “Referral Report of Potential Fraud” form is enclosed. Your staff should use this form to report instances of suspected public pension fraud to PERAC’s Fraud Unit. You should also make this form available to anyone else who wishes to report disability fraud. Please make additional copies as needed. A copy of Chapter 427, § 10, of the Acts of 1996 is enclosed for your reference.
